Ang Lee is a Taiwanese filmmaker who directed the film "Life of Pi" in 2012. He was born on October 23, 1954, in Pingtung County, Taiwan. Lee studied at the National Taiwan College of Arts and then went on to study theater at the University of Illinois and film at New York University.
Lee's early films were focused on Taiwanese culture and history, but he gained international recognition with his film "Sense and Sensibility" in 1995, for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Director.
